Friels was established in 1979 taking over law offices in Uddingston and Coatbridge where we continue to successfully practice today. Prior to establishing Friels, the founding Partners, brothers Joseph Friel and Thomas Friel, practiced in the well-known Glasgow firm of Levy and McRae. Joseph Friel was employed with the property arm of the Stakis Empire Ravenstone Securities.
The firm started with a modest clientele, undertaking general practice work for the local communities. The business swiftly increased with the firm encompassing complex Civil Court work and prominent High Court criminal trials. Two of our solicitors have progressed on to become successful Sheriffs.
In the 1980s the firm had grown in its experience and was advising companies on commercial matters. Joseph Friel was skilled in Company Law in an era when this was uncommon and only beginning to come to the fore. The firm has acted for companies such as Hinari.
Our firm has acted in high-profile civil cases which have advanced all the way to the Supreme Court. An example of this is Bank of Scotland versus Smith, and Donnelly versus Royal Bank of Scotland plc. (see high profile cases section)
Behind-the-scenes of the high-profile cases we have continued to provide a dedicated service to the local communities and now also have an outreach all over Scotland. The firm was involved in the building of the new Hamilton Academical Stadium – New Douglas Park.
On a day-to-day basis we assist clients with commercial and residential sales and purchases, and Private Client matters. Our experienced solicitors provide a dedicated service and are committed to ensuring you receive a genuine service. We are able to accommodate home visits where required.
